Backtrack 5 R3 Released - PenTesting Distribution



Offensive Security has released updated version of its PenTesting distribution, BackTrack 5 R3.  The update version  focuses on bug-fixes as well as the addition of over 60 new tools-several of which were released in BlackHat and Defcon 2012.

A whole new tool category was populated – “Physical Exploitation”, which now includes tools such as the Arduino IDE and libraries, as well as the Kautilya Teensy payload collection.

"Together with our usual KDE and GNOME, 32/64 bit ISOs, we have released a single VMware Image (Gnome, 32 bit). For those requiring other VM flavors of BackTrack – building your own VMWare image is easy – instructions can be found in the BackTrack Wiki." Offensive Security Team said.

For the insanely impatient, you can download the BackTrack 5 R3 release via torrent right now. Direct ISO downloads will be available once all their HTTP mirrors have synched, which should take a couple more hours. Once this happens, they will update their BackTrack Download page with all links.

BackTrack 5 R3 will be released on Aug 13th, 2012 - BT5 R3


The BackTrack Development team has planned to release an R3 revision of Backtrack Penetration Testing distribution in 2 weeks.

According to the official statment, the new release focuses on bugfixes and over 50 new tool additions – making it the most potent revision yet.

"We have released a BT5 R3 preview in BlackHat Vegas for the enjoyment of conference attendees, which can be found in their delegate bags."

" The DVD contains a BT5 R3 Gnome, 32 bit edition – burnt as an ISO (as opposed to an image). We will be taking in our last bug reports and tool suggestions from the BH / Defcon crowds for our upcoming official release, which will be on August 13th, 2012."

Current BT5 users can simply upgrade to the latest release using the regular update commands. More details will be released along with the full listing of new tools on the 13th of August.

BackTrack5 R2 Linux Released! Mar 1st, 2012 : PenTesting Distribution

 As they promised earlier, Backtrack Team released the BT5 R2 On March 1st 2012.  Now it is available for everyone to download.  Backtrack Team added 42 new tools with custom-built 3.2.6 kernel .
 
Special Edition of Maltego 3.1.0 , Metasploit 4.2.0 community Edition, Social Engineer Toolkit 3.0, BeEF 0.4.32 and many other tool upgrades.

 From now , Backtrack includes Ubuntu updates in repositories on a more regular basis. So from now on, when you run a dist-upgrade, you will also receive the updated tools and packages that are being pulled from Ubuntu, making for a more secure and stable distribution.

The long awaited release of the BackTrack 5 R2 kernel has arrived, and it’s now available in Backtrack repositories.
