Unlocking the ChatGPT Plus and Code Interpreter Add-On's Capabilities

For its popular ChatGPT service, OpenAI initially introduced third-party software application plug-ins back in March. These plug-ins let customers expand ChatGPT's capability to perform tasks like reading complete PDFs. The business announced this week that all of its ChatGPT Plus subscribers will now have access to Code Interpreter, one of its own internal plug-ins.

Code Interpreter "lets ChatGPT run code, optionally with access to files you've uploaded," a spokeswoman for OpenAI stated on the company's continually updated ChatGPT release notes blog. You can request that ChatGPT analyse data, make charts, change files, do maths, etc.

The AI can process files up to 500MB in size and write Python code thanks to its extensive toolkit and ample RAM.

Users of ChatGPT Plus can build interactive HTML files, charts, maps, data visualisations, graphics, analyse music playlists, clean datasets, and extract colour palettes from images using the Code Interpreter. The interpreter opens up a wide range of possibilities, making it a potent tool for data processing, analysis, and visualisation.

It should come as no surprise that ChatGPT power users and tech industry leaders have had nothing but great things to say about the service thus far.

Flutterwave's Lithuanian General Manager and Europe Country Manager Linas Belinas stated on LinkedIn that "OpenAI is unlocking their most powerful feature since GPT-4 to everyone." Today, anyone can work as a data analyst.

Belinas presented a slideshow on his post that demonstrated 10 examples of novel data visualisation and analysis tasks he was able to complete using ChatGPT using Code Interpreter, including building an interactive HTML "heatmap" of UFO sightings across the United States using only a "unpolished dataset."

In his weekly article, "One Useful Thing," associate professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and well-known AI influencer Ethan Mollick stated that ChatGPT with Code Interpreter is "the single most useful, interesting mode of AI I have used."

In his article, Mollick claimed that Code Interpreter "makes the AI much more versatile" and that it can offer structured data to support claims a user might make. I asked it to prove to a doubter that the Earth is round with code, and it provided multiple arguments, integrating the text with code and images."

According to Mollick, the tool makes the most significant case yet for AI as a beneficial companion in sophisticated knowledge work. While human supervision is still required, the new function lowers rote work, allowing for more meaningful, in-depth work.

"Code Interpreter represents the clearest positive vision so far of what AIs can mean for work: disruption, yes, but disruption that leads to better, more meaningful work," said Mollick.

It clearly sets a new bar for the future of AI and data research. With this technology, OpenAI is pushing the bounds of ChatGPT and large language models (LLMs) in general yet again.
