Tweets leads to Mobile malware infection

Symantec researchers come across tweets that attempts to spread the mobile malware. Researchers warned that users can potentially end up infecting their mobile devices with Android.Opfake by searching for tweets on subjects such as software, mobile devices, pornography, or even dieting topics to name a few.

These tweets contain short URLs and the message is mainly in Russian with some English terms included, leads you to malicious websites developed for the Opfake application.


"Once the user visits the site, they are prompted to install the malicious application. However, aside from these particular characteristics, all tactics used differ from each other making it difficult to confirm which tweets are actually bad unless you click on the link." Researcher wrote in the blog.

Researchers says several operations are continuously taking place. In one of operation attackers post 130,000 tweets from  round 100 accounts within 8 hours. 

Symantec reported about the malicious tweets to twitter, Twitter immediately responded by taking them down.
