Three Nigerian arrested in UAE for blackmailing five senior White House officials

Dubai Police has arrested a group of African hackers who allegedly blackmailed five senior White House officials after hacking into their email accounts. All three will be handed over to US authorities after they will complete their jail term in the UAE.

According to the director of Information and Development in Cyber-Crimes Department, Major Saud Bin Suror Al Khalidy, the hackers are from Nigeria. They hacked into the emails of the senior officials in the White House and sent them blackmail emails.

Three of them was arrested in UAE in 2015 and will be handed over to the US after they will complete their jail term in UAE.

“They managed to got highly confidential information and the US asked Dubai Police for assistance. We tracked down the gang to an apartment in Ajman and arrested the three suspects. They had a list of many bank accounts and hacking software and cash. They were prosecuted in the UAE and later will be handed to the US after serving their jail term,” Major Al Khalidy said during a presentation at Emirates Forensic Conference and Exhibition.

They were arrested after US Officials shared information with the  Dubai Police.

“We formed a professional team in order to follow-up on the cyber data available and to gain access to the gang. The professional team consisted of members from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Ajman police forces.”


The arrested hackers are to be between 24 and 26 years of age, the mastermind is identified as B.A who is 24-year-old, while the other two are 26 respectively. They were possessing many hacking software and millions of dollars in assets, including a list of “five million bank accounts” at the time of arrest. They had entered UAE on a tourist visa.

“We found electronic devices, financial remittance documents, hacking software, bank accounts, and a list of electronic bank accounts, which were confiscated from the gang,” Major Al Khalidy said.
